Hartwick Routs UMass-Dartmouth; Hawks 3-0
ONEONTA, NY – Freshman Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) tallied twice to lead Hartwick to a 4-1 win over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday in the opening round of the Mayor’s Cup at Elmore Field. Boucher, who has now scored in her first three collegiate games, tallied to give the Hawks the lead for good 2:43 into the match. She added Hartwick’s third goal early in the second half.
Boucher gave ’Wick the advantage after UMass-Dartmouth keeper Madison Boucher had run out to the top of her 18-yard box to make a clearance. The ball came to Boucher 35 yards and she blasted a ball back into an open goal for the 1-0 edge.
The game remained 1-0 for the next 36 minutes. Freshman Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney) served a ball into the box from the right sideline. The ball fell perfectly in front of goal to Cami Cleaveland (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) who headed past Boucher to increase the Hawks’ lead to two.
Ten minutes, 26 seconds into the second half, the Hawks would all but put the game away with their third tally. Following a service into the Corsair box, a scramble for the ball ensued. Boucher collected it, and buried it low to the far post past reserve keeper Nikki Butts.
With just over 10 minutes to play, freshman Brooke Wojciechowski (West Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater) made it four. Allyson Daniels (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) started the play serving a corner kick to the near post. Wojciechowski got to the ball first and finished for her first goal in a Hartwick jersey.
UMass-Dartmouth would spoil Hartwick’s shutout bid 3:40 from the final horn. Kayli Berche scored the Corsairs’ goal, putting the ball past ’Wick’s Alley Maurer (Jackson, NJ/Old Bridge).
Hartwick held a slight edge in shots for the match, 10-7. ’Wick also earned six of seven corners in the contest.
Annie Millar (Ilion, NY/Ilion) started in goal for the Hawks and made two saves. Maurer played in the second half and made one stop.
Hartwick closes out Mayor’s Cup play on Sunday at Oneonta State. The Hawks play The College of New Jersey at 2:30 p.m. The Lions, who are ranked 11th in the nation, defeated Oneonta State 2-0 earlier today.
