FLORENCE, SC – Stetson University scored in the opening 10 minutes and twice in the second half to outlast Francis Marion University for a 3-0 non-conference win, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) in women’s soccer action.

Francis Marion (1-5-0) will head to Charleston next weekend for a pair of matches.  The Patriots will play Morehead State University on Friday at 11 a.m. on the campus of Charleston Southern University.  FMU will then play at The Citadel on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Patriot senior goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry, the second leading active saves leader in NCAA Division I, and sophomore Casey Murakami split time between the posts.  O’Berry registered two saves, while Murakami made a career-high nine stops over the final 45 minutes.

Stetson goalkeepers Kahri Smith and Janina Scharnbacher combined on the shutout.

Adrianna Suarez put the Hatters up 1-0 when she tapped in a corner kick by Mara Keomanivane that bounced through the 6-yard box.

Francis Marion freshman Breanna Crenshaw connected on a 21-yard shot from the top of the box that forced a save by Smith in the 43rd minute.  The Patriots’ best scoring opportunity of the second stanza came when junior Kelly Anthony sent a long service into the box and senior Shauna Griffin’s header attempt sailed over the crossbar.

Stetson added second-half scores in the 57th and 88th minutes.
