Havrilla Named MAAC Defensive POTW
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's soccer awards on Monday afternoon. Freshman Emma Havrilla has been voted the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Over the course of two road games against Albany and Wagner, Havrilla recorded a 1.00 goals against average and .867 save percentage. She made eight saves in Iona's 2-1 loss at Albany, one of which was on a penalty kick. Havrilla recorded her first career shutout with five saves on Sunday in Staten Island, NY against the Wager Seahawks.
Thus far this season Havrilla has started in five of her six appearances this season. She has a 1.09 goals against average and .786 save percentage through 495 minutes this season. She has faced 66 shots and made 22 saves.
Havrilla is the second Gael to win a weekly award this season. Freshman Faith Preziosi was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday, Aug. 20.
The Maroon & Gold's next game is on the road this upcoming Sunday, Sept. 9 against LIU Brooklyn. The Gaels and Blackbirds kick-off at 1 PM. The game can be viewed on NEC Front Row.
