Highland Park's Kennedy joins NCAA-II champs
DURANGO, Colo. — Fort Lewis College men’s soccer coach Oige Kennedy announced that Parker Kennedy has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the defending NCAA Division II national champions next fall.
“Parker is a player that we are very excited to add to our 2012 roster,” said Coach Kennedy. “He comes from a very strong academy soccer background and has a great deal of potential that we welcome in all our players. He is a technically solid player and, although has played in a defensive position, he likes to get forward and join the attack and that suites or football philosophy.”
Parker Kennedy was a four-year starter at right defender and right midfielder at Highland Park High School in Dallas. He was voted as the All-District Utility Player of the Year as a senior and was team captain the past two years.
He has extensive club and academy experience, having played in the USSF Academy the past four years. He was also selected to the U.S. national team’s Market Center training in 2011. He has played in six Dallas Cup tournaments as a member of various club teams, including one that won the 2006 Dallas Cup championship.
Parker Kennedy joins Sameth Al-Basith, an English-born player who transferred to the Skyhawks at semester from East Tennessee State University with four years of eligibility intact.
Coach Kennedy expects a handful of additional recruits to commit to Fort Lewis in coming weeks.
The Skyhawks captured their third NCAA Division II championship in 2011, having previously won national titles in 2005 and 2009. FLC was national runners-up in 1999 and 2006. Fort Lewis posted a 24-1-0 overall record, 13-1-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The Skyhawks also won NCAA-II Central Region, RMAC regular season, and RMAC tournament titles.
Fort Lewis loses seven seniors to graduation: Defenders Berekk Blackwell and Fabian Kling, midfielders Cory Dean, Markus Lux, and Joey Madigan, forward Thomas Hoang, and goalkeeper Ryan Wirth.
