Hilltoppers struggle to find net against Jets, drop a 1-0 decision
AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s men’s soccer team fell to Newman, 1-0, Friday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
In the first half St. Edward’s (3-7-3, 1-3-1 HC) controlled the match early on maintaining possession of the ball having multiple runs. Neither the Hilltoppers nor Newman (4-9-1, 2-2-1 HC) would find the back of the net before the end of the half.
In the second half, the Jets defender Chris Vaughn would get a lucky break away in the 78th minute, beating two defenders and the keeper as he came off his line.
St. Edward’s turned up the offensive pressure after this shot. St. Edward’s had its best chance to score in the 89th minute when Edric Martinez (Sophomore, Houston, Texas) attempted a header on net but the Jet goalkeeper was there to make the save.
St. Edward’s outshot the Jets, 10-4. They also had four corner kicks compared to Newman’s three.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Sunday when they travel toWichita Fallsand take onMidwesternStateat 2 p.m. Live audio and stats will be available on the Midwestern State Athletic Website.
