Hofstra Blanks Colgate at Inaria Classic
Hamilton, NY – Stephan Barea (Levittown, NY) scored the game’s only goal and Roberto Pellegrini (Monte Porzio Catone, Italy) posted four saves in goal as Hofstra recorded a 1-0 victory over Colgate at the Inaria Classic Friday evening.
Hofstra sees its record even at 2-2, while Colgate falls to 4-1-1 with its first loss of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Barea put the Pride on the board when he headed in a corner kick taken by Chris Griebsch (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany) at the 51:06 mark. The goal was Barea’s first of the season.
Colgate, which had received 39 votes in the September 13 NSCAA Poll, had a chance to tie score nine minutes later when Shane Conlin had a shot on an open goal but Pride defender Shaun Foster, the reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Year, cleared the ball off the line to preserve the lead. The Red Raiders had five more shots down the stretch, but only one on goal.
Colgate outshot the Pride, 14-7, in the contest and Red Raider goalkeeper Reed Grant had one save.
Hofstra returns to action Sunday at Cornell in the second game of the Inaria Classic, which is being co-hosted by Colgate and Cornell. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
