Hollenga chosen as RMAC Offensive Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College forward Hayley Hollenga was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week today, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.
Hollenga, a 5-foot-7 senior from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, scored three goals and added an assist as No. 6 Fort Lewis defeated St. Cloud State (Minn.) 4-0 on Friday and Augustana (S.D.) 2-1 on Sunday.
“Hayley played well this weekend,” said fifth-year FLC head coach Damian Clarke. “She was her usual self, calm, confident and consistent.”
In Friday’s season opener, Hollenga passed Carissa Bradford (1995-99) and Kate Mahler (2003-06) as the all-time goal scoring leader in FLC women’s soccer history. She added a goal Sunday against Augie, giving her 36 career markers, two ahead of Bradford and Mahler.
Hollenga, who will be honored as a member of FLC’s All-Century Team on Sunday, Sept. 18 as one of the top 100 athletes, coaches, and administrators in school history, also ranks as the Skyhawks’ all-time leader in total points (95), assists (23), and shots (234). Her game-winning goal against St. Cloud State was the 12th of her career, moving her within one of Mahler for another school record.
The Skyhawks continue their nonconference play this coming weekend with a pair of neutral-site games at Colorado Mesa’s Walker Field in Grand Junction. Fort Lewis plays Dixie State (Utah) (1-1-0) at 4 p.m. Friday and Grand Canyon (Ariz.) (0-2-0) at 2 p.m. Sunday.
