Holy Cross Names Casey Brown Head Coach
WORCESTER, Mass. – Casey Brown has been named head women’s soccer coach at Holy Cross, Director of Athletics Nathan Pine announced on Friday.
Brown becomes the seventh head coach in Holy Cross history. She comes to Worcester having served on the coaching staff at Boston University for the past three seasons. Brown was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach prior to the start of the 2015 campaign in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the program.
While at Boston University, she helped guide the Terriers to three consecutive Patriot League titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Brown also coached 25 All-Patriot League selections during her three seasons, as well as the 2015 Patriot League Defender (McKenzie Hollenbaugh) and Goalkeeper of the Year (Alyssa Parisi).
On Dec. 10, 2015, Brown was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Additionally in 2013, she was tabbed to the NSCAA “30 under 30” list, which highlights the top 30 soccer coaches in the United States under the age of 30.
“I am thrilled to welcome Casey Brown to Holy Cross to lead our women’s soccer program,” said Pine. “She is one of the brightest young coaching minds in the game, and her familiarity with the Patriot League and the academic standards of Holy Cross will be invaluable. Casey is widely respected throughout the coaching profession for her relentless attitude and her accomplishments as a coach, recruiter and former player. I am confident Coach Brown will have an immediate positive impact on the Holy Cross women’s soccer program.”
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone at Boston University, especially Nancy Feldman and Drew Marrochello, who have been instrumental in my career and made BU such a special place for me,” said Brown. “I am extremely excited and honored to lead the women's soccer program at the prestigious College of the Holy Cross, under the direction of director of athletics, Nathan Pine. I look forward to the future of Crusader soccer!”
Prior to Boston University, Brown was a graduate assistant coach at LIU Brooklyn from 2010-2012, where she helped lead the Blackbirds to a Northeast Conference championship in 2011. She also coached nine All-Northeast Conference players as well as the Northeast Conference Defender and Goalkeeper of the Year.
As a player, Brown starred at Boston University as a four-year starter on the Terrier back line from 2006-2009. The only three-time Defender of the Year in America East Conference history, she garnered All-America East honors every year while at BU. Brown was part of a Boston University team that was nationally ranked in the top 10 (2006), won three conference championships and participated in the NCAA Tournament every season.
Brown was also named an NSCAA third team All-American in 2009 and was selected to the NSCAA All-Northeast Regional team three times. She capped off her collegiate career as the seventh round draft pick of the Boston Breakers professional women’s soccer team in 2010.
A member of the NSCAA, Brown is the creator of the Association’s Six Components of Training the Elite Female Soccer Player, which is featured on the organization’s website.
Brown earned her bachelor’s degree from the Boston University School of Communication in 2010 and her master’s degree in exercise physiology and sports nutrition from LIU Brooklyn in 2012.
“Casey has been both a standout player and a significant contributor to the Boston University soccer program the last three years as an assistant coach,” said Boston University head women’s soccer coach Nancy Feldman. “Personally and professionally, I could not be more pleased for, and proud of her.
“While we will miss her daily presence with our program, she will not be far! We will continue to see her on the opposing sideline, as Holy Cross is a Patriot League rival. The Turnpike Trophy will have added meaning every year, as we know we will be facing a well-coached and well-prepared team! Holy Cross is so very fortunate to get, in their new head coach, a leader, motivator and teacher with such strong values and competency as Casey Brown.”
