Holy Cross Passes By Iona At Mazzella
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Holy Cross Crusaders cruised by the Iona women's soccer team Friday afternoon, 4-0.
Senior Allie Neumann gave the Crusaders the lead in the fourth minute with her first goal of the season. Junior Ang Seslija made the deficit two in the 23rd minute with her third net-rattler. Junior Lily Puccia and senior Emily George both chipped in assists on the first half scores.
George added to her single-game point total with a score in the 51st minute, and freshman Sydney Fisher netted the final tally in the 78'. Neumann assisted on George's score.
Holy Cross outshot Iona 20 to 11 and had an eight to four shots on goal edge. The Crusaders attempted six corners compared to the Gaels one.
Sophomore Mariah Elsenheimer and junior Mariana Jaramillo each had a team-high three shots. Each of Elsenheimer's shot were on target. Sophomore Caroline Cashion made four saves in net for Holy Cross.
The Gaels return to action on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 11 AM against Wagner.
