Alabama State shuts out PVAMU
Lady Hornets improve to 3-1 in conference play this season
"I am excited to get this win at home." Alabama State head coach Jodie Smith said. "We had an extended amount of energy in the match today. We had couple of chances to score and I am glad we had a chance to finish. Moving forward, we need to be sharper but we can take a lot away from this game to help in the future."
Alabama State (5-6, 3-1 SWAC) and Prairie View A&M (2-6, 2-2 SWAC) were scoreless through the first 38 minutes until Lexi Krieger scored her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick by Teaggan Ilela, her third assist of the season.
The lead stayed that way into intermission and through the first 18 minutes of the second half until Ariela Lewis took a pass from Inma Martinez and beat the goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season, giving Alabama State a 2-0 lead.
Alabama State finished the day with 15 shots, including nine on goal for the match; while Prairie View A&M finished with 11 and six on goal. Gianna Guyot was credited with her second shutout of the season while making six saves in 90 minutes for the Lady Hornets.
The Lady Hornets return to the pitch Friday night against preseason SWAC favorite, Howard University, The match is set to kick at 7 pm at the ASU Soccer Complex.
