Lady Hornets edge Jackson State, 2-1
Alabama State sweeps road trip to open conference play
"I was pleased to get another tough road win, and I am glad to see us gaining a little rhythm in our offensive attack and score some goals," Alabama State head coach Jodie Smith said. "We lost a little focus defensively and let them get back in, but we were able to close it out."
Alabama State (2-6, 2-0 SWAC) scored first as Teaggan Ilela knocked home her second goal of the season on a pass from Kayla Mckenzie-Edmonds.
The lead was extended to 2-0 in the 53rd minute when Birgit Rijnders picked up her third goal of the season off an assist from Ilela.
Jackson State closed out the scoring in the 86th minute when the Lady Tigers finally found the back of the net.
The Lady Hornets will return home for a two-match home swing, beginning Sept. 28th against Mississippi Valley, followed by Alcorn State on Sunday. The game kicks off at 7 pm on Friday at the ASU Soccer Complex where admission is free.
