Hottsmith Leads UW-W to Fourth Straight Win
Dylan Hottsmith (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) scored with less than five minutes in regulation to lift the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over North Park Wednesday night at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The win is the fourth in a row for the Warhawks who are now 11-4-3 this season. The Vikings fall to 9-4-1.
Brian Zimdars (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) each tested the Viking goalkeeper in the first ten minutes of play, but Wesley Woodley made the stop each time to keep the game scoreless.
A combination of passing by Jake Santellano (North Brook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Jack Wirth(Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) set-up Michael Salm (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 Warhawk lead in the 26th minute of play.
Ten minutes later the Vikings had a chance at the equalizer, but Warhawk goalie Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) made the save and UW-W entered the intermission with a one goal lead.
North Park tested Lucatorto again in the 65th and 75th minutes, but Lucatorto was up for the challenge and made two more saves.
A foul in the box on the Warhawks in the 81st minute led to a penalty kick opportunity for the Vikings. Gianfranco DeCarne capitalized to tie the match.
Five and a half minutes later, Hottsmith gained possession along the left sideline, made a nice move past a defender into some space, and drilled a shot into the back of the net to give UW-W a 2-1 lead.
North Park was unable to generate any quality shots in the final minutes and the Warhawks, despite being outshot 15-13, held on to win.
Lucatorto finished the match with four saves.
The Warhawks have a quick turnaround as they will host Grinnell tomorrow at 7 p.m.
