Huskies fall to South Carolina, 4-0
The Northeastern women’s soccer team was toppled by the South Carolina Gamecocks, 4-0, on Friday night.
South Carolina got off to a quick start when forward Kayla Grimsley flicked the ball past Northeastern goalkeeper Paige Burnett in the game’s first minute off a throw-in.
The Gamecocks added to their lead in the 27th minute when senior midfielder Kortney Rhoades put a shot home to the far post off the rush, for the 2-0 lead.
South Carolina scored its third marker in the 46th minute when Grimsley scored on a breakaway and their fourth in the 89th minute when senior Lolly Holland scored on a grounded cross.
Northeastern was outshot narrowly in the match, 9-6. Freshman goalkeeper Paige Burnett played all 90 minutes and made four saves.
Veronica Napoli, Maria Lanyi and Greta Samuelsdottir all registered shots on goal for the Huskies.
Northeastern now rests at 2-2-0 on the season.
The Huskies return to action when they take on Clemson this Sunday. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
