Huskies land five on Preseason All-CAA team
2013 Schedule | 2013 Roster | 2013 CAA Preseason Poll
BOSTON –Simon Cox and Dante Marini got the 2013 Northeastern men's soccer season started on the right foot on Tuesday when the two captains were named to the Preseason All-CAA team. In addition, Jonathan Eckford, captain Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave and Ambry Moss earned Honorable Mention status.
NU's five selections are the most of any team in the conference after the Huskies were selected to repeat as CAA champions in last week's preseason poll.
Marini, a senior from Chadds Ford, Pa. earns preseason conference accolades for the second straight season after registering one goal and five assists in 2012. The midfielder has started each of the last 43 matches, and is coming off All-CAA Second Team honors last year.
Cox, the 2012 CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-CAA First Team selection, netted four goals last season while anchoring a Northeastern defense that held its opponents to 0.76 goals per game. The London, England native is back for his junior season to lead a Husky defensive corps that returns all five starters from a year ago.
Eckford (Bradenton, Fla.) started all 21 matches as NU's central back in 2012, recording two assists. The senior was named to the All-CAA Third Team and CAA All-Tournament Team after helping Northeastern to its first CAA tournament championship in team history.
Fayd'Herbe de Maudave (Johannesburg, South Africa) enters his second season with the Huskies after finishing second on the team with five goals and four assists last year. He was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2012.
Moss, who was stationed at left back during every game in 2012, was part of a lock-down Northeastern defense that held opponents to just 16 goals, the lowest in program history, along with 10 clean sheets. The Nassau, Bahamas native was named to the All-CAA Second Team and NSCAA All-South Atlantic Third Team last year.
Following exhibition contests at Boston College (Aug. 18) and against New Hampshire (Aug. 24), the Huskies will open the 2013 regular season at the John Rennie / Nike Invitational against future league foe Elon on Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.
