Huskies Named to Hermann Trophy Watch List
STORRS, Conn. - Senior forward Mamadou Doudou Diouf and junior goalkeeper Andre Blake were both named today to the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
The preseason list will be narrowed down to 15 towards the end of the collegiate regular season when NSCAA members from Division I programs vote on their top choices. College soccer fans will help decide what players will become semifinalists for the award, and the winner will then be announced in January.
Connecticut is one of six teams with two players on the 34-person list. Memphis players Liam Collins and Mark Sherrod were also named to the list. The Tigers visit UConn October 12th.
Diouf, who was a semifinalist for the award last season, led the Huskies last year with 15 goals and 2 assists for a total of 32 points. He was selected as the American Preseason Offensive Player of the Year earlier this week.
Blake was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year each of the last two seasons and comes into this season with a career record of 36-7-4. He was tabbed as the unanimous selection for the American Preseason Goalie of the Year on Monday.
