Indiana Misses Opportunities in 1-0 Loss to Iowa

September 26, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team (4-5-1, 0-2 Big Ten) had its opportunities to even the score or take the lead against the Iowa Hawkeyes (9-0-1, 0-2 Big Ten). But it was the Hawkeyes that took advantage of a miscue by the IU defense to put home the only goal of the game just before halftime.

"I know this team can keep on pushing and finding ways to keep creating chances to generate some success," Indiana head coach Mick Lyon said. "There are so many good things happening that if we can catch a break, I think our fortunes will certainly turn around."

Iowa found the back of the goal after the IU defense turned the ball over just outside the box and Katie Nasenbunny took a couple of touched and put a shot inside the back post - just out of the reach of a diving Lindsay Campbell in the goal.

The best scoring opportunity for the Hoosiers in the first half came off the foot of sophomore Lisa Nouanesengsy as she found some space in the box but was not able to squeeze a shot past Moran.

In the second half, Nouanesengsy broke in on goal for a one-on-one Iowa goalkeeper Emily Moran. But it was Moran that was somehow able to get her hands on the ball twice to keep it from trickling past her.

Campbell finished with seven saves in the contest while Moran made six to earn the shutout.

The Hoosiers were able to log just two corner kicks in game after entering the game leading the Big Ten in corner kicks. Iowa held a 18-12 overall shot edge in the game as well.

Nouanesengsy registered four shots in the game, three of which were on goal, and Orianica Velasquez was credited with three shots in the game for the Hoosiers.

Indiana returns to Armstrong Stadium on Sunday to take on Nebraska at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on BTN.com (fee required).
