Iona Falls To FDU 1-0 In Tough Battle
Teaneck, NJ – The Iona College women’s soccer team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 to open the 2013 season at University Stadium.
Knight striker Connie Lewis broke the scoreless drought in the 39th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Lewis dribbled through the Iona defense beating a defender and sent a shot to the low corner. FDU (1-0) held a 6-0 advantage in shots after the first half.
Iona (0-1) battled back in the second half, with a shot on target by junior Safi Ayinde. Iona had an opportunity with 12 minutes remaining as freshman Erika Flowers had an open corner, but an FDU defender slid in diverting the shot out of bounds.
FDU finished the game with a 6-4 edge in shots.
Senior Trista Rivera finished with three saves in the contest. FDU’s Sage DoVale made a single save.
Iona will remain on the road and take on Towson on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
