Iona Men's Soccer Falls On The Road To SPU
JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Iona College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss at Saint Peter's on Wednesday afternoon. A pair of quick goals in quick succession goals in each half be felled the Maroon & Gold as they drop to 3-3-1 in MAAC play.
Saint Peter's first goal came in the 32nd minute, scored by senior defender Michael Crentsil and assisted by senior Gabrielle Bandelli. Just one-minute and 42 seconds later, senior Andrew Romero gave the Peacocks a 2-0 lead. Freshman Jordan Jowers assisted on Saint Peter's second goal.
Iona controlled the tempo at the start of the second half, but senior Ezquiel Cei assisting on Jowers's goal in the 74th minute quelled the Gael momentum. The final goal was scored by Romero, his second of the game, in the 75th minute.
Overall in the game, Iona outshot Saint Peter's 17-16, and it had a 6-2 corner kick advantage.
Junior Sebastian Gordillo had a team-high five shots and two shots on goal. Overall, the Gaels had seven shots on goal, all of which were stopped by freshman Robbie Anderson in his shutout effort. Iona has now gone two goals without a goal after scoring a goal in four straight games.
Iona will look to return to its winning ways on Saturday, Oct. 21 when its hosts Niagara at Mazzella Field for a 3:00 PM kickoff.
