Jackrabbits Hand ‘Roos First Summit League Loss on Senior Day
(Kansas City, Mo.) – Sunday afternoon, the UMKC women’s soccer team suffered its first Summit League loss at the hands of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 1-0.
With this defeat, the ‘Roos (7-6-4, 5-1-1 SL) drop to third in the Summit League standings, while the Jackrabbits (11-5-2, 7-0-1 SL) officially move into second behind North Dakota State.
In the first half, South Dakota State out-shot the ‘Roos seven to three. However, junior keeper Jami Finnell, along with the help of her teammates, kept the Jackrabbits scoreless.
Junior midfielder Ashley Gann registered the lone on-goal-shot for UMKC as they were held scoreless in the first half as well.
During the 85th minute, still no score, the Jackrabbits got on the board when forward Kelsey Ferguson assisted forward Kayla Braffet for the goal.
As the second half continued, UMKC was held scoreless and South Dakota State came away with the victory.
Coming up, the ‘Roos will hit the road to play Oral Roberts (10/27) and Southern Utah (10/29) to close out the season.
