MIAMI, Fla. -   Despite leading in shots, Jacksonville couldn't find any luck as Florida International scored on a penalty kick with less than nine minutes remaining in the match to down the JU men's soccer team, 1-0, on Monday night in Miami Fla.

With the match scoreless in the 81st minute, the Golden Panthers (4-7) had a shot attempt that was saved by sophomore goalie Johnny Foley, but he bobbled the ball and in the process fouled an FIU player to set up a penalty kick. Steven Cabas calmly knocked it in the top of the goal for the game-winning score.

Cabas finished the night with match-high six shot attempts, which Phillip Lamarre tallied eight saves between the posts to help secure the win.

The Dolphins (3-7-1) finished the night with an 18-8 shot advantage and held the Golden Panthers to only a pair of attempts in the first half. Senior midfielder Jonathan Jackson had a team-high five shots, while sophomore forward Tyler Williams finished with four attempts. Senior goalie Joey Sanchez and sophomore goalie Johnny Foley each had a half between the posts and tallied one save apiece.

"This was a tough way to lose," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We played hard all night. I was pleased with how aggressive we were on offense, but we just couldn't get any in the back of the net. As long as we continue to work hard then good things will eventually happen. I'm glad we had this game because it will help us as we prepare for our matches in Nashville this weekend."

The Dolphins came right after the Golden Panthers as Williams and senior defender Eddie Munnelly launched shots on goal within the first two minutes of the match.

Williams caught Lamarre out of position in the seventh minute of the match, but his shot sailed wide.

JU took eight shots in the first half before FIU tallied its first attempt of the match in the 38th minute by Cabas, which was saved by Sanchez.

In the second half, Jackson and junior forward Wesley Lartey each had consecutive shots in the 70th minute for the Dolphins, but they were knocked down by Lamarre.

Less than three minutes after FIU's goal, Williams tried one last shot for the Dolphins, which was once again saved by Lamarre.

The Dolphins dive back into the Atlantic Sun schedule on Friday when they head to Nashville to play Belmont at 7:30 p.m. JU finishes the weekend on Sunday against Lipscomb at 1 p.m.
