Jacobson's three points propels women's soccer to win over Allegheny
PITTSBURGH, PA -- Junior midfielder Jackie Jacobson (Westlake, CA/Westlake) scored a goal and added an assist as RIT defeated Allegheny College 2-1 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Sunday. The win improves the Tigers to 2-2-0 on the season.
Jacobson led RIT with a goal and an assist, while Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) tallied her third goal of the season. Katie Schindler (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) added an assist and Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) picked up her first win of the season allowing one goal and making six saves.
RIT got on the board early in the first half on Jacobson's firt goal of the season. She flicked a shot into the far post off a free kick by Schindler.
Bromson gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute on her third goal of the seaosn. She took a pass from Jacobson finished on a one-v-one with the Allegheny goalkeeper Emily Karr.
Jenna Smith pulled Allegheny to within a goal in the 82nd minute off an assist from Georgia Frost.
Allegheny, who participated in NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010, out shot RIT 12-7. The Tigers took three corner kicks to just one for Allegheny.
RIT returns home to take on cross-town rival University of Rochester on Wednesday, September 14 at 4 pm on RIT Field. The Yellowjackets come into Wednesday's game ranked 12th in the NSCAA Division III poll. It will be the second ranked opponent the Tigers have played this season. RIT defeated SUNY Oneonat, then ranked #13, 1-0 in overtime back on September 3.
