Jhonny Arteaga Joining #ICMSOC Coaching Staf
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – First year men’s soccer Head Coach James Hamilton has announced that Jhonny Arteaga will be joining his staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2016 season. Growing up in Stamford, CT, Arteaga who has played professionally with the New York Red Bulls of the Major League Soccer, and was most recently playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the United Soccer League.
Arteaga grew up in Stamford, CT, where he attended Westhill High School before playing college soccer at Dominican College. During his time with the Chargers, he received all CACC Honors, and NSCAA All-Region Honors in 2006 and 2007. As a senior in 2007, Arteaga led the CACC in points and goals, and was named the conference’s Player of the Year, Daktronic’s First Team All-Region, and First Team All-American.
Beginning his professional career in 2008 with the Western Mass Pioneers in the USL Second Division, Arteaga signed with the F.C. New York in the USL Professional Division in 2011. On June 15 of that year, he recorded his first professional hat trick against his former team, the Mass Pioneers, in New York’s 2011 U.S. Open Cup debut.
He was named to the USL Pro Golden Boot, Pro Scoring Champion, and Pro All-League First Team following his 2011 season.
Arteaga agreed to terms with the New York Red Bulls in March of 2012, and then in February 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Holding a US Soccer Federation National B coaching license, Arteaga has coaching experience most recently with the JA Elite Soccer Academy LLC based out of Stamford, CT. Acting as the Founder and Director of Coaching since 2011, he has overseen 250+ youth soccer players from the ages of 5-14, developing intense curriculum for all teams & programs to maximize player development.
Arteaga also has coaching experience in the Darien Soccer Association, and the Connecticut Football Club.
Now a member of the Maroon & Gold community, Arteaga and Hamilton will look to lead the Gaels to a successful 2016 season. Iona’s first game will be on the road against Connecticut in Storrs, CT on Friday, Aug. 26; the home opener will be against Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
