JMU Women Rally Twice to Tie Delaware 2-2
NEWARK, Del., Oct. 16, 2011 -- The James Madison women's soccer team rallied twice to tie Delaware and came away with a 2-2 double-overtime tie in Colonial Athletic Association competition Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes' record now stands at 7-6-3 overall and 4-3-1 in CAA play. Delaware's record is 7-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the CAA.
Amy Pickard scored both Delaware goals, the first in the ninth minute to give the Blue Hens a 1-0 lead.
The Dukes tied the game 8:57 into the second half, as redshirt senior Jessica Barndt (Novi, Mich./Novi) scored off a long crossing pass from sophomore Becky Sparks (Laurel Springs, N.J./Paul VI).
Pickard's goal in the 67 minute, off a crossing pass from Ali Miller, put Delaware back on top 2-1.
With 17:22 left in regulation, JMU again tied the match as sophomore Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown) scored on a rebound of a shot by redshirt senior Laura Trevillian (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central).
JMU out-shot Delaware 21-15, but the Blue Hens held a 4-3 shot advantage in overtime.
Dukes' redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kate Courter (Lincoln Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart) made six saves while Delaware goalie Breanna Stemler made 11 saves.
