Kansas City Takes Out Coyotes, 1-0
(Vermillion, S.D.) - In what was the final game of the season for both squads, the UMKC women's soccer team (6-9-4, 3-4-1 SL) came away with a 1-0 win over the South Dakota Coyotes (3-13-3, 1-6-1 SL) on the road Saturday afternoon.
In the 36th minute, Kangaroo forward Taylor Bare (6) scored the lone goal of the match when she put it past a diving Jen Shaefer (2-8-1). With this goal, the Anoka, Minn. native finished as Kansas City's leading scorer for the third consecutive season.
As the first period progressed, the Kangaroos maintained their 1-0 lead along with the shot-count, 10-4, going into halftime. In the net, keeper Nina Tzianos (4-7-4) tallied two saves.
After intermission, Kansas City kept the Coyotes at bay for the rest of the afternoon, despite South Dakota out-shooting the Kangaroos, 6-4. For the game, however, the 'Roos out-shot South Dakota, 14-10, as Tzianos finished with three saves.
With Saturday's win, the Kangaroos recorded the second most victories in a season after winning a school record eight in 2011.
