KENTUCKY DEFEATS ODU, 2-1 IN OVERTIME
NORFOLK, VA—Brad Doliner’s goal with 1:55 left in the first overtime lifted the Kentucky Wildcats to a 2-1 C-USA victory over ODU Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex, before a crowd of 854. It was Doliner’s second goal of the night. ODU is now 4-3-1 overall and 1-1 in C-USA, while Kentucky is 3-5 overall and 1-1 in C-USA.
Doliner put Kentucky in the lead early in the second half on a penalty kick, but ODU rallied to tie the match with 13 minutes left on a goal by sophomore defender Michael Nelson (Austin, TX.)with an assist from junior Ivan Militar (Szeged, Hungary) which was off a corner kick, sending the match into overtime.
The Monarchs just missed winning the game in regulation when Ivan Militar’s shot missed off the left inside post last in the match. The Monarchs played the last few minutes of regulation and the overtime without leading scorer Tim Hopkinson who suffered a cut on the leftside of his head.
ODU outshot Kentucky 17-14 as the Wildcats goalkeeper Callum Irving made six saves including two in the extra period while ODU’s senior keeper Sean Stowe (Midlothian, VA.) made three.
ODU returns to action next Wednesday night in a nationally televised contest on Fox Sports at Charlotte with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
