King cruises past North Greenville
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's soccer team was nothing but stellar on the field against Conference Carolinas opponent North Greenville University. From the opening whistle the Tornado outperformed the Crusaders cruising to their sixth win of the season.
The scoring started right out of the gates for King. In the first minute, Kendyl Bairdfound a ball off the defender and hit a shot over the keepers head making the score King 1, North Greenville 0.
Shots continued to come for King (6-3, 3-1 CC) and in the 18th minute, Baird found the net again. This time, Paula Doran passed the ball to Baird where she delivered a shot past the North Greenville (0-8-1, 0-3-1 CC) keeper going into the middle of the net making the score 2-0.
The Tornado continued to keep the pressure on ripping shot after shot. In the 32nd minute, King had a promising chance when Hulda Sigurdardottir found herself in the box, ripped a shot that eventually hit off the crossbar.
A short six minutes later, Eydis Eysteinsdottir scored the first goal of her career.Shalisa Barnett sent a ball through the defenders where Eysteinsdottir ran onto it and sent a ball past the goalie. This made the score King 3, North Greenville 0 bringing us into the half.
To open the second half, King tallied nine shots in the first 12 minutes then one finally found the back of the net. In the 58th minute, Barnett got an opportunity. After Barnett ripped a shot that was blocked, she collected the ball again and sent it by the defender and keeper making the score 4-0.
King continued to pour on goals. This time, Rayna Spears took a bouncing ball and passed a shot into the bottom right side of the net. Less than a minute later, Spears found herself again with an opportunity. She sent a shot over the keeper into the top of the net. King now led North Greenville 6-0.
Not much more resulted for King besides another big conference win. Olivia Drakerecorded her second win of the season. Nicole Dagher made 2 saves in the game as well.
King outshot North Greenville 34-3. The Tornado also tallied seven corner kicks and held the Crusaders to two.
The Tornado will be in action next on Monday at Parks Field against Trevecca Nazarene at 4:00 pm
