Kristen Bischoff Garners NEC Honor
September 11, 2017
Somerset, NJ – After scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career in two games last week, junior Kristen Bischoff (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) of the Wagner College women's soccer team was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Bischoff starred in a Seahawk offense that scored four goals in two road contests, a 2-0 victory over Saint Peter's (9/6) and a 2-2 draw at Iona (9/10).
Against the Peacocks on Wednesday night, Bischoff put the game away 10 minutes into the second half, recording the Green and White's second goal of the evening after the Seahawks had been backed up on defense for the first minutes of the period.
Four days later, the junior opened the scoring at Iona in the 23rd minute. An interception deep in Iona territory gave the ball to sophomore Kaitlyn Ross (Sayville, NY / Sayville), who fed a perfectly-timed through ball to Bischoff. The forward stayed calm in front of the net and smartly put the ball into the bottom-right corner, giving Wagner a 1-0 advantage.
Overall, Bischoff contributed six shots, including five shots on goal, in the two contests.
Apart from Bischoff's performance, the NEC also recognized sophomore goalkeeper Delaney Beck (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial) as a "Prime Performer." Beck made ten saves in two games, including eight in Sunday's contest at Iona, while logging the first clean sheet of her Seahawk career in the 2-0 victory over Saint Peter's.
Wagner will be back in action on Friday, September 15, when the Green & White host NJIT at Hameline Field in at 7:00 pm. start.
