Kron, Henschel Top WIAC Team
Senior forward Kevin Kron (Willowbrook, IL/Benet Academy) and head coach Greg Henschel head a group of eight University of Wisconsin-Whitewater representatives on the 2011 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer team.
Kron earned the WIAC Offensive Player of the Year Award. He tied for the league lead in game winning goals (3), and was second in the WIAC in goals (10), goals per game (0.53), points (23). Kron was the UW-W leader in goals, points, game winning goals, and was second on the team with three assists.
Henschel directed the Warhawk men to their third consecutive WIAC championship, going 8-0 in league play in 2011. He was also the coach of the year in 2009. Henschel, who also coached the Warhawk women's team to a league championship, was also chosen as the WIAC Coach of the Year for women's soccer.
Kron was joined on the All-WIAC First Team by goalkeeper Aaron Sesslemann, a junior. Sesselmann went 9-4-0 for the Warhawks with a .733 save percentage, 3.14 saves per game, and three shutouts.
Whitewater was represented by four players on the second team. Junior midfielders Josh Chamberlain (De Pere/De Pere) and Logan Fye (Rockford, IL/Winnebago), sophomore defender Bob Shone (St. Charles, IL/East), and freshman forward Austin Saari (River Falls/River Falls) were second team picks, the first year the league has named a second team. Fye was UW-W's number two scorer with nine goals, tied for second on the team with three assists, and was second with 21 points. Saari scored three goals and passed for three assists, and joined Chamberlain with two game winning goals. Shone and Chamberlain played key roles in the Warhawks registering seven shutouts and just five shots on goal per game.
Senior midfielder Ryan Boyd (Waunakee/Waunakee) was chosen as UW-Whitewater's representative on the WIAC Sportsmanship Team. Each league member picks one player that represents this quality stressed by the league.
UW-Whitewater advanced to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III playoffs for the eleventh time, finishing the year with a 12-8 record.
