La Salle Skips By Iona In Road Trip Finale
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team (0-3-0) concluded its season-opening three game road trip with a 3-0 loss at La Salle (2-0-1) on Thursday evening.
The Explorers got on the board in in the 43rd minute with a goal by Maci Bower. The junior Explorer forward took control of a loose ball towards the near post and beat senior goalkeeper Tiffany Martinez with a grounded shot towards the far post.
La Salle outshot Iona 10 to 2 in the first half, forcing Martinez to make three saves. The Gaels didn't have a shot on goal, managing just two off-net attempts from seniors Christine Rebus and Charlotte Stuart.
The Explorers expanded their lead in the 53rd minute with junior Kristin Haugstad knocking home her third goal of the season. Senior Katherine Hennessey and Bower assisted on the score.
Rebus sent her second shot wide in the 56th minute, and soon after La Salle scored their third and final tally. Freshman Amirah Louketis tallied her first of the season by pushing a shot just inside the near post via a pass from Haugstad.
Martinez made five saves in the loss as the Maroon & Gold were outshot 19 to 9. Sophomore Amber Crispin had four shots and two shots on goal, all coming in the second half. Rebus, Stuart, and senior Marisa Bentley combined for the five additional shots.
