La Salle Women’s Soccer Fights to Scoreless Draw with Drexel
PHILADELPHIA – Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard but both clubs had chances as the La Salle women’s soccer team battled city-rival Drexel to a scoreless draw on Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.
“I was pleased with our effort, but not the result,” said head coach Paul Royal. “We certainly had chances but just couldn’t finish them off.”
The Explorers (1-0-1) outshot Drexel 13-3 but couldn’t punch one into the back of the net.
Maryam Huseini (Skien, Norway/Telemark School) had the most chances for La Salle and recorded five shots in the game.
Melissa Sanger (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway Regional) preserved her second shutout of the season with three saves in net. The final one coming with just three seconds left in the final OT period to keep the clean sheet in tact.
La Salle will have nine days off before their next match on Sunday, Sept. 4 against Rider at McCarthy Stadium.
