Lady Cyclones Post Fourth-Straight Shutout Victory
Centenary outshot its opponent, 33-2, including a 21-1 edge in shots on goal. Junior Alyssa Hackelberg (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and freshman Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa./Abington) split time in goal as CC recorded its fourth-straight shutout victory.
Overland led a collaborative effort for the Cyclones, who tallied five assists on their six goals. Senior Courtney Flanagan (Hackettstown, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and freshman Laura Potter (Gilboa, N.Y./Gilboa-Conesville) each contributed a goal and an assist while junior Sara Smith (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) and seniors Tatiana Kingston (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) and Caitlin Veverka (Bayonne, N.J./Holy Family Academy) recorded an assist apiece. Freshman Samantha Sysak (Bayonne, N.J./Holy Family Academy) netted her fourth score of the year.
Centenary built a 5-0 lead in the opening 27 minutes of the game. Overland scored in the second minute off a pass from Veverka. She found the back of the net again six minutes later from 10-yards out on a feed from Flanagan. In the 17th minute, Smith sent the ball into the box, where it was headed in by Sysak.
Less than five minutes later, Kingston passed the ball to Flanagan, who blasted a goal from 25-yards away. Overland tallied her third goal of the game in the 27th minute off a pass from Potter. The freshman rounded out the scoring in the 79th minute with a shot from 20-yards out.
The Cyclones return to action on Saturday with a home match against Notre Dame (Md.) at 1:00 p.m.
