Box Score Alabama State defeated Prairie View A&M in the second round of the 2013 Southwestern Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament with a final score of 2-1.

"It was definitely a big game for us as we were challenged for 90 minutes," said head coach Jodie Smith.  "This was the team that put us out last year and we knew we had to get through them to get to the championship." 
    
In the first period, the Lady Hornets got off to a slow start by only taking five shots against the Lady Panthers 8. The Lady Panthers scored first in the 4th minute of the game when Breanna Powell found Celene Batrez for a goal. The Lady Hornets responded in the 23rd minute to tie the game 1-1 with a goal from Ariela Lewis with an assist from her twinAaliyah Lewis.

In the second period, the Lady Hornets and Lady Panthers were evenly matched with nine shots apiece. The Lady Hornets
scored the only goal of the period in the 62nd minute when Anastasia McCleary found Ariela Lewis to give them a 2-1 advantage.  

"This is a big moment for our program just thinking back on where we came from and the girls that helped us get to this point it's just incredible," Said Smith.
 
The Lady Hornets will face Jackson State Sunday at 11:00 a.m. for the 2013 SWAC Soccer Championship.
