Lady Scots Fall to Oklahoma Baptist 2-0
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Saturday night, the Lady Scots soccer team competed against Oklahoma Baptist University. While the Lady Scots fought hard all 90 minutes, Oklahoma Baptist was able to grab its first victory of the season with a 2-0 decision over Covenant.
Covenant spent most of the first half of the game playing defense. With a wealth of talent on the offensive side of the ball, Oklahoma Baptist showed fantastic teamwork and passing, challenging the Lady Scots defense several times. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Bales performed several acrobatic saves once again, including diving stops to both sides, leaping grabs in traffic, and even a brilliant, one-handed parry at one point during the second half.
OBU was able to crack the Lady Scots defense midway through the first half when they converted Lady Bison Mackenzie Bruton’s cross into a Courtney Anderson header for their first goal.
Both teams came into the second half strong; Bales and the Lady Scots back line continued to keep Covenant within striking distance, thwarting 11 OBU second half shots.
Covenant earned numerous chances on the offensive side as well, most notably Amy Dykstra’s rocket from 20 yards out that rattled the crossbar early in the first half. Teagan Wood, Bethany Logan, Hannah Brown, and Rachel Carleton each had opportunities of their own.
The Lady Scots were outshot 16-6 in the contest.
The ladies next game is at Tennessee Wesleyan College at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7.
