Lambinus announces 2018 Lehigh schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head women's soccer coach Eric Lambinus announced the Mountain Hawks' 2018 schedule on Thursday, featuring eight home games and nine road contests against top regional and national competition. The season opener is set for Aug. 19 at Saint Joseph's while the Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play at home vs. Army West Point on Sept. 15.
"The coaching staff is really excited about our 2018 team and the challenging schedule we have before us," said Lehigh head coach Eric Lambinus. "Our nonleague potion has several teams who won and/or played for their conference championships with the goal of preparing us for our Patriot League slate. As always, the league looks deep and highly competitive with so many teams capable of winning the championship."
The season begins with Lehigh's first of three contests against Atlantic 10 foes when the Mountain Hawks travel to Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Aug. 19. Last season, Saint Joe's finished 11-6-3 overall and advanced to the A-10 Semifinals. After the opener, the Mountain Hawks return to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Thursday, Aug. 23 to host Fairleigh Dickinson in their home opener. Last season, the Knights lost to Saint Francis (Pa.) in penalty kicks in the NEC Championship Game.
The season continues on Sunday, Aug. 26 at Big East foe Villanova before another road contest at two-time defending MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Monmouth. Lehigh played the Hawks to a scoreless draw to open last season before Monmouth proceeded to lose just four times in its next 19 games.
Lehigh will follow by hosting two Atlantic 10 opponents in Fordham (Sunday, Sept. 2) and Temple (Friday, Sept. 7). Last season, the Mountain Hawks defeated the Owls in overtime for a second straight year, while Lehigh will face Fordham for the first time since 1994.
The Mountain Hawks travel to Towson on Wednesday, Sept. 12 for their final tune-up before Patriot League play. The league opener is set for three days later (Saturday, Sept. 15) against Army. Lehigh hits the road for consecutive games at reigning Patriot League Semifinalists Boston University (Saturday, Sept. 22) and Colgate (Saturday, Sept. 26) before returning home to host another semifinalist in Navy (Saturday, Sept. 29).
Lehigh hits the road on Saturday, Oct. 6 to host American before three consecutive at home, hosting perennial Ivy League contender Penn (Monday, Oct. 8), rival Lafayette (Saturday, Oct. 13) and defending Patriot League Champion Bucknell (Wednesday, Oct. 17). Lehigh wraps up the season with road contests at Loyola (Saturday, Oct. 20) and Holy Cross (Friday, Oct. 26).
The Patriot League Tournament begins with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Oct. 30 with the semifinals set for Friday, Nov. 2 and championship game on Sunday, Nov. 4. The Mountain Hawks will be vying for their third straight Patriot League Tournament berth. Lehigh went 9-5-4 last season, one year after posting an 11-5-2 record. The Mountain Hawks are 10-5-3 in Patriot League play over the last two seasons.
