Late Goal for Wartburg Sinks Blugolds
WAVERLY, Iowa (Blugolds.com) — The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team traveled to Wartburg College (Iowa) for a non-conference matchup. Wartburg College got a goal late in the second half and held on for the 1-0 victory.
After a scoreless first half, the Knights (3-4-1) scored in the 85th minute for the first and only goal of the game. The Blugolds (2-2-2) were not able to rally in the final minutes to tie the game up.
The Blugolds outshot the Knights 9-0 in the first half and 14-8 overall. They also had six corner kicks to three for Wartburg.
Nina Behrenbrinker (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham-Hall) finished with three saves as she fell to 2-2-2 this season. The Blugolds were coming off their first loss of the season on Saturday when they fell to Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) and have now dropped two in a row.
They open conference play on Saturday as UW-La Crosse will travel to Eau Claire. The teams will play at 2 p.m. at Bollinger Field and it is also parent's weekend for the Blugold players.
