(Kansas City, Mo.) - The UMKC men's soccer squad tied the game in the 73rd minute on a long-range blast from senior Luke Harman, but a goal by SIUE in the 84th minute proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Kangaroo loss on Friday in the regular season finale.
UMKC (5-9-3) celebrated senior night, and all seven seniors got to play a big chunk of the game. Harman scored his first ever goal for UMKC on his senior night as well.
The Cougars (8-6-4) tallied the first goal of the match in the 24th minute after a cross from the right wing end line found Derek Huffman in the box. He collected the ball, and put it away from around the penalty spot. SIUE out-shot the 'Roos 6-0 in the half.
The second period saw the 'Roos turn up the pressure, and they finally got on the board with Harman's blast to tie it at one with just over 17 minutes to play. Sophomore Zach Balthazar crossed a ball into the box, but it hit off a Cougar's head and deflected to Harman, who put it in the top right corner from the left corner of the 18 yard box.
The Cougars got a goal from Matt Polster just more than 10 minutes later after Jack Twellman slipped a through ball into the box to put him 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper.
The 'Roos almost tied it back up with a minute to play when freshman Franklin Washington had a shot saved, hitting it from about 12 yards out.
UMKC will now wait to see if it makes the Summit League Tournament with a full slate of games Saturday afternoon and evening that it must watch. The 'Roos need Western Illinois to win over Oral Roberts, or Eastern Illinois to win against IPFW to clinch a spot.
