Late Goals Forces Draw With Baylor
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 20th-ranked Baylor women’s soccer team used a goal with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to earn a 1-1 draw with 16th-ranked West Virginia Friday night in front of 1,207 fans at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Junior midfielder Kara Blosser gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute off a blast into the right corner from 16 yards out. Freshman forward Kelsie Maloney beat a defender to the left touch line and sent a high looper into the middle. BU goalkeeper Michelle Kloss punched the ball off the line, failing to clear the ball that bounced in the direction of Blosser.
West Virginia’s defense held tight until the final moments of the match when a foul was committed as Bri Campos was tripped up at the top of the box. As the referee stopped the clock, the Bears turned to BU leading scorer Dana Larsen to take the direct kick. Larsen drove a ball around the Mountaineer wall of players and into the right side of the goal for the equalizer.
“It’s tough to give a game away with less than 15 seconds on the clock,” said senior midfielder Bri Rodriguez. “It’s a bit heartbreaking to not come away with a win, but we did get a point tonight.”
West Virginia moves to 9-3-4 (5-0-1 Big 12), while Baylor goes to 11-1-3 (2-0-2 Big 12). WVU remains in first place in the league standings with 16 points.
Baylor would take the only four shots of the two overtime sessions, but came up empty.
WVU goalkeeper Sara Keane was outstanding in net, tying a career high with eight saves.
