Lehigh heads to Navy for big showdown Wed.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a two-game Patriot League winning streak, the Lehigh women's soccer team travels to Annapolis on Wednesday night to take on first-place Navy. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and will air live (for free) on the Patriot League Network.
With three regular season games remaining (all league matchups), the Mountain Hawks are looking to make a late-season postseason push. The team stands at 4-8-2 overall, but holds a 2-4-0 mark in the Patriot League. Lehigh currently stands tied with Holy Cross for sixth place and the final Patriot League Tournament spot.
Lehigh is coming off a big win at Army Saturday. The Mountain Hawks played to a 1-0 shutout victory behind a first-half goal by sophomore Paige Elliott while Ashley Blanks played another strong game in goal, making five saves for her sixth-career shutout. That earned her Patriot League Goalie of the Week honors. The North Andover, Massachusetts native is averaging six saves per game which is tops in the Patriot League.
Senior Murphee Greeley dished an assist to extend her team lead in that category while also putting her at the top of the list in points. Her two goals and four assists give her eight points for the season, one ahead of Danielle Salans who has seven behind three points and an assist.
On Wednesday, the Mountain Hawks face a tough Navy squad that boasts a perfect 6-0-0 mark in the Patriot League and stands 13-3-0 overall. The Midshipmen are coming off a strong 2-0 win at Holy Cross on Friday where they outshot the Crusaders 28-7. The Mids sit in first place in the Patriot League, just three points ahead of Boston University who they defeated 1-0.
Navy is led on offense by junior forward Morgan Dankanich, who leads the Patriot League with 11 goals and 25 points. She's also added three assists on the season and leads the team in shots with 35. The Midshipmen are anchored in net by senior Elizabeth Hoerner who's second in the league with a 0.49 goals against average. In over 1,200 minutes played she's allowed just seven goals and has posted eight shutouts.
Lehigh is 4-14-4 all-time against Navy. The schools met twice last season. Navy shut-out Lehigh 1-0 in the regular season and handed the Mountain Hawks a 4-1 defeat in the Patriot League Semifinals.
Following Wednesday night's game, Lehigh returns home for two straight to close out the regular season, beginning with Colgate this Saturday at 7 p.m.
