Lehigh heads West for Saint Mary's Classic
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team will make its first-ever trip to California this weekend where it will play in the Saint Mary's College Classic. The Mountain Hawks will take on the University of the Pacific on Friday at 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) before facing Saint Mary's on Sunday at 2 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET).
Lehigh is coming off its first win of the season this past weekend when it beat Central Connecticut State 1-0. Junior Darby Dustman scored the lone goal while the defense pitched a shutout. Dustman converted a cross to the left post from sophomore Katie Centento to give the Mountain Hawks their first goal of the season.
With that first win and a 1-2-0 overall record, the Mountain Hawks look to build upon that momentum heading into the weekend road trip. Dustman leads the team in points on the season with junior Danielle Salans holding the lead in shots with six.
The defense and goalkeepers have played well for the Mountain Hawks this season. In 135 minutes played, junior Ashley Blanks boasts a 91.7 save percentage and 0.67 goals against average. Sophomore Ani Nahapetian has seen equal playing time, has given up just two goals and owns a 75.0 save percentage and 1.33 GAA.
Pacific sits at 0-4-1 on the season, coming off of a tough overtime loss to UC Santa Barbara. Seniors Brittni Beeman and Maricela Padilla are tied for the team lead in goals with one apiece.
Saint Mary's heads into the weekend carrying momentum from a big 3-0 win against Loyola Chicago in the Marquette Classic. The Gaels' record stands at 2-4 overall, with their only other win coming at home. The duo of senior Briana Campos and sophomore Caroline Beaulne are tied for the team lead in goals on the season with two each.
Lehigh has never faced Pacific or Saint Mary's.
Following the trip to California, Lehigh has six days off before traveling to Washington D.C. to take on American in the Patriot League opener.
