Lehigh hosts Colgate in crucial matchup
BETHLEHEM, Pa - In the midst of a postseason hunt, the Lehigh women's soccer team will host Patriot League foe Colgate this Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will air live on the Patriot League Network. The Mountain Hawks enter the weekend two points out of the sixth and final league tournament spot (with two games to play).
Lehigh is coming off a tough 2-0 loss at Navy on Wednesday. The Midshipmen scored two first-half goals leaving Lehigh with a deficit it couldn't overcomes. Both shots (17-5) and corner kicks (5-1) were in favor of Navy. Lehigh sophomore Ani Nahapetian was strong in goal, making eight saves.
Saturday's game has a similar feel to a season ago. Last year, Lehigh hosted Colgate in the penultimate game of the season, and the Mountain Hawks came away with a 1-0 victory over the eventual Patriot League Champions to keep their postseason hopes alive. A win on Saturday will keep Lehigh in Patriot League Tournament contention, and the Mountain Hawks could still be alive with a loss (depending on out-of-town scores).
The Raiders enter the weekend with an 8-5-1 record and 4-2-1 mark in Patriot League play. Caroline Brawner leads the team with 13 points (five goals, three assists), Emily Manoogian has eight (three goals, two assists), while Catherine Williams (two goals, three assists) and Sarah Coy (three goals, one assist) have seven apiece. Brennan Mason has played the majority of time in goal, owning a 1.09 GAA and .780 save percentage.
Colgate leads the all-time series, 15-7-1. The Mountain Hawks have enjoyed success as of late, beating the Raiders three of the last four times.
Following this weekend, Lehigh will host Holy Cross in the regular season finale next Saturday (Nov. 2). It will be Senior Day as the Mountain Hawk seniors will be recognized prior to the 3 p.m. kickoff.
