Lehigh hosts Penn in Tuesday tune-up
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team will kick off its final week of the regular season with its final home game as the Mountain Hawks welcome Penn to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Lehigh looks to gain momentum heading into a big Patriot League showdown at Holy Cross Saturday with significant postseason implications.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off of a tough 1-0 loss to league leader Colgate this past weekend. The Raiders managed to score on a header less than a minute into the second half, which was one of only two shots on goal for them. Lehigh controlled play for long stretches, but couldn't get the ball past Colgate goalie Brenna Mason as she ended the game with five saves.
Penn has enjoyed a balanced season with a 5-5-3 overall record, but the Quakers own a 1-1-3 mark in the Ivy League. Penn is coming off a 1-1 tie this past weekend to Yale, but hasn't won a game since an October 10 victory against Columbia. Freshman Juliana Provini has led the team in scoring with seven points (three goals, one assist) while Erin Mikolai leads the team in assists with four. Kalija Terilli has seen the majority of time in goal, owning a 1.27 goals against average and .729 save percentage.
Lehigh is 1-13-1 all-time against the Quakers, garnering its only win in 1992 by a 3-2 final. Last season, the Mountain Hawks earned a 1-1 tie with Danielle Salans scoring Lehigh's lone goal and Ashley Blanks stopping nine-of-ten shots sent her way.
Lehigh is now 4-5-5 overall and 2-2-4 in the Patriot League, which is good for sixth in the league standings. After taking on Penn, this Saturday's game at Holy Cross has playoff implications for the Mountain Hawks. With a win, Lehigh would clinch its third league tournament spot in the last five years and still could be in with a loss or tie (depending on an out-of-town score). Heading into the weekend, the Mountain Hawks stand one point ahead of Loyola for the sixth and final postseason position. Saturday's game at Holy Cross is set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
