Lehigh remains home to host Army Saturday
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer will look to get back on track in Patriot League play when the Mountain Hawks host Army West Point on Saturday. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start from the Ulrich Sports Complex. Live video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh is coming off its second straight league defeat after a 3-0 loss to Navy on Wednesday night. Following 43 scoreless minutes and strong defense from both sides, freshman goalkeeper Sam Miller was whistled for a foul in the box, and Navy broke through by converting the ensuing penalty kick. In the 65th minute, Lehigh had its chances at equalizing the game, but shots from sophomore Sabrina Mertz and senior Laura Courtney failed to reach the back of the net. The Midshipmen extended their lead with a goal in the 68th minute and sealed it with a goal in the 85th minute to pick up their second Patriot League win of the year.
Entering Saturday, the Mountain Hawks stand at 7-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Patriot League play. With her three saves Wednesday, Miller is up to 43 saves on the year. Despite allowing three goals in each of her last two games, her goals against average for the season still stands at 0.58. She's also tallied a .878 save percentage, to go along with her league-high eight shutouts.
The Black Knights come into Saturday's matchup with an overall mark of 3-7-1, and 1-1-1 in Patriot League competition. In its last matchup, Army finished locked in a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross. Clare Shea anchors the attack as she has accumulated eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Samantha Sullenger is the team's top goal scorer with three, to go along with an assist for seven points. Goalkeeper Millard West has tallied 55 saves to go along with a 1.53 GAA and .764 save percentage.
Army leads the all-time series with Lehigh, 16-6-5. Prior to last season's 2-0 defeat, the Mountain Hawks played the Black Knights to a scoreless draw in 2014 and beat Army 1-0 in 2013.
Following Saturday night's matchup, the Mountain Hawks will return to action Tuesday when they host Princeton. The game will start at 7 p.m. with live coverage available on the Patriot League Network.
