Lehigh remains home to host Navy Wednesday
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Still unbeaten in Patriot League play, the Lehigh women's soccer team returns home on Wednesday evening to host Navy. Opening kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The Mountain Hawks currently stand in fifth place, but are just three points behind second-place Navy. Lehigh is unbeaten through six league games for the first time in school history.
Wednesday night is a Summit Series game as admission is five dollars for general admission and free for students and faculty/staff with a Lehigh ID.
The Mountain Hawks' defense continues to impress, earning their second straight Patriot League shutout on Saturday (and fourth in six games). Lehigh allowed just seven shots and one shot on goal to Army and has given up just 13 shots and three shots on goal over its last two games. The Mountain Hawks' goals against average in league play is a miniscule 0.29, allowing just two goals in 620 minutes.
The Lehigh offense has been up and down, but it hasn't been for a lack of opportunities. The Mountain Hawks generated several glittering scoring opportunities against the Black Knights Saturday, including a great look from senior Darby Wiegand to freshman Grace Correll inside the box then later, a Correll rocket that hit the crossbar. Lehigh also had one sequence in the first half which featured two quality shots on goal.
Navy enters with a 9-3-4 overall record and 4-1-1 league mark. The Mids' one loss came to Boston University while their tie came against Colgate. Navy is coming off a 2-0 win against Holy Cross last weekend. The squad is led offensively by Morgan Dankanich who owns 14 points (five goals, four assists). Clare MacAdam, Lily Kraemer and Jade Seabrook all have double-digit points with 11, 10 and 10, respectively. Dayton Wetherby has seen the majority of time in goal, playing in 15 of the team's 16 games and staring 13. She owns a 0.77 GAA and .823 save percentage.
The Midshipmen lead the all-time series, 15-4-4. The Mountain Hawks' last win came at home in 2011 by a 1-0 final. Lehigh won the first two meetings overall, in 1993 and 1994.
Lehigh will return to action at Colgate on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to face the first-place Raiders. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
