Lehigh remains home to host Princeton Wed.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a four-game unbeaten streak and its best start to league play since 2006, the Lehigh women's soccer team steps outside of the Patriot League on Wednesday for a showdown against Princeton. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks look to remain unbeaten at home and defeat the Tigers for the first time in program history.
Owning a 4-2-3 overall record and 2-0-2 mark in league play, Lehigh is coming off an impressive effort against defending Patriot League Champion and #6 regionally-ranked Boston University on Saturday. Trailing 1-0 heading into halftime, the Mountain Hawks tied the score midway through the second half behind senior Darby Wiegand's fourth goal of the season. Freshman Grace Correll tallied the assist on the goal, her fifth point of the week to go with both Lehigh goals at Lafayette last Wednesday. That earned her Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in her young career. Correll now leads the team with 11 points (four goals, three assists) while Wiegand has nine (four goals, one assist).
Junior Ani Nahapetian was strong in goal on Saturday, making five saves to earn honorable mention recognition. Classmate Emily Korber earned honorable mention laurels as well for her work at right back. The Mountain Hawks' defense continues to impress, allowing just five goals in nine games this season and just two over four league contests. Almost halfway through the Patriot League schedule, Lehigh is currently tied for second in the standings.
Princeton travels to Bethlehem with a 2-3-3 overall record, including a 1-0-1 mark in the Ivy League. Two of the Tigers' three losses have come on the road (at Richmond and William & Mary). A perennially strong program, Princeton's offense is led by Lauren Lazo who owns 11 points (four goals, three assists) while Tyler Lussi isn't far behind with nine (four goals, one assist). A trio of goalkeepers has seen action, led by Darcy Hargadon who's started seven games and owns a 1.99 goals against average and .594 save percentage in 588:48 played
The Tigers lead the all-time series, 16-0-1. The tie came in 2009. Three of the last four years have featured one-goal games, including a slim 2-1 defeat at Princeton last season.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Loyola to face the Greyhounds. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
