Lehigh set for games at FDU, Duquesne
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's soccer team looks to carry over momentum from the end of Sunday's game into this coming weekend as it travels to Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday (7 p.m.) and Duquesne on Sunday (12 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks finished their opening weekend 0-1-1, falling to Delaware Friday before playing six-time reigning MAAC Regular Season Champion Monmouth to a scoreless draw Sunday. This Thursday's game at FDU begins a four-game road trip for Lehigh, with the team next returning home on Friday, Sept. 13 vs. UMBC.
Live video and statistics will be available Thursday while only live stats will be available Sunday.
During opening weekend, the Mountain Hawks bounced back from a tough 2-0 defeat vs. Delaware by playing a tough game against a perennially strong Hawks' team. Lehigh played its best down the stretch; after being outshot 11-2 in the second half, the Mountain Hawks held a 5-3 advantage over the two overtimes, including a number of glittering opportunities. In the end, Lehigh extended its unbeaten streak vs. Monmouth to five games (1-0-4 in that span). Over the last five seasons, Monmouth is 0-1-4 vs. Lehigh (40.0 win percentage), but 58-16-4 against everyone else (76.9).
Junior Miranda Royds made four saves for Lehigh to earn the shutout while senior Annika Jansa made a big second-half team save.
Out of the Northeast Conference, FDU stands 1-1 on the season after a 6-1 win over Alabama State and 4-1 loss against Miami (Fla.). Last season, the Knights finished 6-10-3 overall, 4-3-1 in the NEC to reach their conference tournament. Through two games, Sofia Albertsson leads the offense with two goals and four points while five others have scored a goal; Paula Ruess and Viktorija Miseljic have each dished two assists. In goal, Amanda Fitzgerald has started both games, owning a 2.40 goals against average and 42.9 save percentage. Cassandra Marcoux has played 30:06, recording a 2.99 GAA and 83.3 save percentage.
Lehigh is 4-0 all-time vs. FDU, which includes a 1-0 win in last year's home opener behind Chloe Tremblay's 77th minute goal. The teams first met in 2002, a 1-0 Lehigh win.
Duquesne is 0-1-1 following its opening weekend, falling 2-0 at No. 11 West Virginia and tying Loyola Marymount at home, 1-1. Last season, the Dukes were 6-9-2 overall, including 2-6-2 in the Atlantic 10. Deena DeBaldo has scored Duquesne's goal this season, coming on a penalty kick, while Megan Virgin has played every minute in goal. She owns a 1.35 GAA and 80.0 save percentage.
Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Duquesne, and the Mountain Hawks' first of three games against the A-10 this season (also Fordham and Saint Joseph's).
Following this weekend, the Mountain Hawks again play a pair of road games on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon, traveling to Temple on Sept. 5 (7 p.m.) and Fordham on Sept. 8 (1 p.m.).
