Lehigh set for Saturday showdown at Army
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's soccer team is currently tied for fourth in the league standings, but a lot has yet to be determined as the Mountain Hawks play their final road game of the season this Saturday night at Army West Point. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on the Patriot League Network. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a scoreless draw at Colgate Wednesday to earn their first point in Hamilton, N.Y. since 2009.
Lehigh currently owns 10 points with a 3-3-1 Patriot League record. Tied for fourth, the Mountain Hawks would own the tiebreaker if the season ended today due to wins over both teams they're tied with (Bucknell and Holy Cross). Lehigh is still only two points behind Army West Point and Loyola for second place (who both also tied on Wednesday), but only one point ahead of Lafayette in seventh. The top six teams earn a Patriot League Tournament berth. If the Mountain Hawks win each of their final two games, they would finish no lower than third in the standings. With two wins and Loyola losing once, Lehigh would be the No. 2 seed and earn a bye for the league tournament.
Wednesday saw the Mountain Hawks outshoot Colgate, 13-11, including 5-1 in shots on goal. Lehigh didn't allow a shot on goal for the game's final 91:11. The Mountain Hawks outshot the Raiders 5-1 in the overtime periods, including shots on goal in the second overtime from freshman Ryelle Shuey and sophomore Rebecca Van Siclen.
Wednesday was just the fifth time in 17 all-time meetings at Colgate that Lehigh earned a point.
The Mountain Hawks are now 5-6-5 overall on the season. Army stands with a similar mark, currently 6-5-4 and 3-2-2 in league play. The Black Knights are in the midst of a four-game unbeaten streak, most recently playing Lafayette to a scoreless draw in Easton. Alyssa Carfagno leads the team in goals (5) and points (12) while Lauren Drysdale is second with eight points, including two goals and a team-high four assists. Sydney Cassalia has played every minute in goal, tallying a 0.94 goals against average and 77.6 save percentage.
Lehigh is 8-18-5 all-time against Army. Last season, the Black Knights picked up a 1-0 win to snap two consecutive Mountain Hawk victories. The last meeting at West Point was in 2017, seeing Lehigh pick up a 2-0 win behind goals from Ally Friedman and Sabrina Mertz.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks return home for the regular season finale next Friday (Nov. 1) at 6 p.m. against American.
