Lehigh set for Wednesday matchup at Colgate
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Looking to snap a three-game losing skid, the Lehigh women's soccer team will hit the road on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup at Colgate. The Mountain Hawks opened league play with a pair of 1-0 defeats vs. Army West Point and most recently, at Boston University. Wednesday features a rematch of last season's Patriot League Quarterfinals at Colgate.
The Terriers scored at the 7:32 mark of Saturday's game and even though the Mountain Hawks outshot Boston University 14-9 for the game, they couldn't find the back of the net. Ever since scoring two second-half goals in an impressive 2-0 win over Temple, then a first-half goal at Towson the following game, Lehigh has been shut-out. Lehigh has now outshot its opponent (sometimes convincingly) in each of its last five games (often convincingly), but is just 1-4 in that span. On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks were looking to hand Boston University its first home conference defeat since 2007.
Sophomore Miranda Royds has continued her strong play in goal, owning a 0.93 goals against average and 0.824 save percentage. Royds has allowed more than one goal just once this season (at Towson) and in that game, had a career-high 11 saves.
Colgate stands 4-2-3 on the season, 1-0-1 in Patriot League play, currently riding a five-game unbeaten streak. Most recently, the Raiders tied Army (0-0), beat Fairfield (1-0) and topped Loyola (3-0). Abby Sotomayor leads Colgate in points with seven (three goals, one assist) while Martina Loncar has six (three goals) while Ellis Miller and Leah Lewis each own five (two goals, one assist). Kelly Chiavaro has started eight of nine games in goal, recording a 0.62 GAA and 0.898 save percentage.
The Raiders lead the all-time series with Lehigh, 19-7-3 following last season's 1-0 Patriot League Quarterfinal victory. Lehigh's last win came on Oct. 21, 2012 by a 1-0 final. Since, the Mountain Hawks have tied twice, both in 2015 and 2017 (regular season).
Following Wednesday's game, the Mountain Hawks return home on Saturday to host Navy at 7 p.m.
