Lehigh set for weekend vs. Monmouth, Fordham

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team is set for a busy weekend when it hosts Monmouth Friday night (7 p.m.) before welcoming Fordham Sunday afternoon (1 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks have split each of their last two games, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson last Thursday, then falling to Villanova on Sunday.
Early in the season, Lehigh is 0-2 on the road and 1-0 at home. On Thursday, sophomore Chloe Tremblay scored in the 77th minute to defeat the Knights, 1-0, but Sunday saw Villanova score 5:31 into the game, on the way to a 4-0 win over the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh is in the midst of a challenging nonleague slate, playing Saint Joseph's in game one (predicted sixth in the Atlantic 10), FDU in game two (reigning NEC Regular Season Champion) and Villanova in game three (out of the Big East). Lehigh is playing perennial MAAC power Monmouth Friday and another A-10 opponent Fordham Sunday.
Monmouth stands 3-1, defeating NJIT (1-0), Bucknell (1-0) and Delaware (3-1) while falling at No. 20 North Carolina State in overtime (1-0). Last season, the Hawks finished 15-4-2, winning their fifth straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and second straight tournament title. So far, Alli DeLuca leads the team in goals (2) and points (4) while Jill Conklin and Dana Scheriff each own a goal and assist. Amanda Knaub has played all but 19:14 in goal, recording a 0.25 goals against average and 0.923 save percentage. Monmouth was picked first in the MAAC preseason poll while Madie Gibson was voted as the conference's Preseason Player of the Year. Alli DeLuca, Amanda Knaub, Anna Lazur and Lexie Palladino joined her on the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
Monmouth leads the all-time series with Lehigh, 9-3-4. The teams have tied each of the last three years – 2-2 in 2015 then 0-0 each of the last two years.
Fordham is 0-3 heading into a Thursday evening matchup against Hofstra. The Rams fell at No. 5 South Carolina (1-0), at Holy Cross (1-0) and at Columbia (3-0). Kelly LaMorte has been strong in goal, recording a 1.67 goals against average and 0.706 save percentage. Fordham was picked ninth out of 14 teams in the preseason A-10 poll after finishing 6-8-5, 3-5-2 in the A-10 last season. The team's leading scorer from 2017 graduated in Carlie Wagner (four goals and eight points), but the next top scorers return in Crea Baker-Durante and Clara Gastaldi (two goals, three assists apiece).
Lehigh is 3-0 all-time vs. Fordham, beating the Rams 1-0 in 1991, 3-1 in 1993 and 4-1 in 1994.
