BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a challenging three-game-in-eight-day stretch, the Lehigh women's soccer team returns home on Saturday to host American University at 1 p.m. In that eight-day stretch, the Mountain Hawks tied Boston University and Colgate at home before falling at Navy this past Saturday. Saturday's defeat snapped Lehigh's six-game unbeaten streak, marking its first loss in 27 days.
The Midshipmen scored in the eighth and 81st minutes to improve to 4-0 in league play. Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Miller was stellar, tallying seven saves, including many strong stops and a penalty-kick save just minutes after Navy scored its first goal. Despite allowing three goals in two games last week, Miller made 10 saves and still owns a 0.63 goals against average and 0.862 save percentage for the season.
The last three teams Lehigh faced (Boston University, Colgate and a Navy) are a combined 10-0-2 in league play, with the two ties coming against the Mountain Hawks. Despite the challenging schedule so far, Lehigh still stands in fifth place in the Patriot League standings at 1-1-2 and five points.
American is 0-4 in league play, 1-11 overall. The Eagles' lone win has come against VMI, 2-1, but they've lost nine straight since. American has scored two goals on the season (both against VMI), by Charly Slavick and Toni Williams. Ryleigh Brown leads the way in goal, tallying a 1.83 GAA and 0.736 save percentage in 687:02. Meanwhile, Amy Krotine owns a 4.57 GAA and 0.556 save percentage in 315:00.
The Eagles lead the all-time series vs. Lehigh, 11-7-1. Each of the last six meetings have finished 1-0 with the Mountain Hawks winning last season behind a goal from Sabrina Mertz. That win clinched Lehigh a home game in the Patriot League Quarterfinals. Overall, Lehigh has won four straight home games vs. the Eagles.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will head to archrival Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
