BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a strong season-opening win over Binghamton, the Lehigh women's soccer team hits the road for the first time when the Mountain Hawks travel to Mount St. Mary's on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff. With a win, Lehigh would start its season 2-0 for the first time since 2005.
Sunday's match will be streamed live (for free) on NEC Front Row and live stats will be available.
Lehigh's offensive spark came from its bench in Sunday's season-opening 2-0 win over Binghamton. After the Mountain Hawks controlled first-half possession, freshman Grace Correll tallied found the back of the net with a header late in the first half, before adding a second-half assist. Correll was one of two Mountain Hawks to receive a Patriot League weekly award. She earned Rookie of the Week while Ashley Blanks received her third-career Goalie of the Week honor. Senior Darby Wiegand put the game on ice with her goal in the 76th minute.
Along with the weekly awards, junior Paige Elliott also earned honorable mention recognition after dishing an assist and helping lead a young defense to the shutout. That victory helped propel Lehigh to #10 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings.
The Mount stand 0-3 early in the season, suffering shutout losses to George Washington, Temple and American. The Mountaineers have allowed a combined 12 goals in their first three games and have yet to score a goal. Mount St. Mary's top two returning scorers are junior Emma Blair and senior Alicia Mirando. Mirando is tied for 11th place on Mount St. Mary's all-time scoring list.
This will be the second time Lehigh has played the Mountaineers. The Mountain Hawks defeated Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in 2007 while the second matchup was cancelled in 2008 due to severe weather conditions.
Following Sunday's matchup, Lehigh returns home to host Villanova on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
